Have you ever felt that in spite of all you may be doing that you are still not doing something right? Even when other praise your efforts, do you feel that somehow it is underserved?
Do you chase dream after dream and when it is accomplished you still feel empty inside? Maybe you’ve caught yourself saying if only I had a bit more money, or a more lavish home, or a car that starts when I want it to, only then will I be happy.
Then how do you explain the unhappiness that is unknowingly expressed by the rich and famous?
I have been guilty of wanting more, thinking that with the fulfilment of my needs, joy will endlessly abound. It never really does and for me this was one of life’s hardest lessons. I have spent time chasing after material possessions and looking back I wish that I would have spent that time building a relationship with the one who can fulfill ALL my needs.
I recall, some years ago, when I sold Avon in an effort to earn extra income. I would go into a retirement home that was close to my home in Jacksonville, Florida. The ladies there would be especially happy when I visited they would chat merrily as the flipped through the catalogs. The time soon came when I had to visit them almost daily just so that they can talk about life, past loves, children and things that they wish that they could undo.
I look back on those days as the happiest moments in my life. I had adopted these women as my family and they had adopted me as their child. We talked about life and its meaning, we talked about God and his plans for us. Those were truly happy times because I could leave the cares of work behind and just bring companionship to women, some of whom felt abandoned by their children.
It became more of a blessing to me than to them. I have since learnt the lessons that they tried to impart and I will share the short of it with you right now.
Do not wait until the age of retirement to give God your best. Do something for him right now. Ask him of his purpose for your life and do what he bids.
He has a special plan for my life but I must first give him my complete being. It may not be the easiest road, and it may mean leaving my comfort zone but I remember that God provides for my needs on a daily basis and he knows what I can and cannot manage. He will do the same for you!
I am wealthy because God keeps blessing me. I am safe because God is my refuge. I am strong because God is my strength. I am wise because God is my teacher. I am saved because he has forgiven me and covered me with his righteousness.
Today I will pray that you find your purpose in God and do his will because of the assurance of his presence and the guarantee that he keeps his promises.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
