Think about it. Do you really need that job that you are holding on to with a vice-like grip? I am talking about that job that you think offers some security. That job that you tear yourself out of bed to go to every day. That job that you whine and moan about every chance you get. That job where you do the same thing and meet the same people day in and day out.

For a few people a job offers a place to be creative and to really do something meaningful that changes the lives of many people. For the majority however a job is nowhere near as fulfilling as that. Their jobs can be described as the equivalent of “selling one’s soul to the devil” in order to receive a regular paycheck every month.

Spending four years and more to acquire higher education only to get a job where you are dissatisfied and stressed out is so 20th century. Yes, you can’t argue with that a regular paycheck is enticing but chances are you are doing the work of 2-5 people just to earn it. I am sure that they didn’t disclose that in your welcome package! I come across so many talented people who are stuck doing jobs that they hate and I wonder to myself why do they do it? Then again, I see a changing trend too. I am seeing so many people chucking in the “security” of their regular paychecks to blaze their own trails, to build their own dreams to start their own businesses.

It’s almost 6 years now since I have last worked full time and over 8 years since I caught the entrepreneurial bug. I started my virtual assistant practice part time, in addition to becoming a powerseller on eBay while I worked a full time job. Those were the days.

To be fair let me briefly evaluate both sides of the coin. A job promises a paycheck on schedule. On the other hand that raise that you were promised might not be forthcoming, the position may not be as secure as you think, you have to explain your every move, do the work of 2-5 people and I can almost bet that you are not given the appreciation that you deserve.

Today the internet has made so much possible. There are millions of people around the world who are making their livings online. From selling digital and physical products, offering services, providing online courses, coaching, flipping websites and so much more it’s all there. This has been going on for many years now and even today there are so much opportunities and avenues for entrance that any savvy visionary could step right in and make a decent living. For sure this is not for everyone but I am sure that if you are disciplined and have a talent that you are using to make your boss rich you can put it to good use to freelance or start your own business.

As education increases, degrees are now a dime a dozen, it is increasingly hard for graduates to find great paying jobs. Still many of them sit, hoping and praying that the job will come along. I believe that the “smarter” ones realize that there are indeed a lot of possibilities in being their own bosses and take up the challenge to do so. As I said earlier not everyone has been blessed with the entrepreneurial spirit but it is easy to test the waters and see if you can make a go of it.

Freelancing online is a great way to start. It requires little or no investment, except time for research and learning the ropes, and in little as 24 hours you can have money in your pockets. Not bad for a few hours’ work.

If you are tired of working the same ole’ job or need to explore the possibilities of freelancing, becoming a virtual assistant or just earning some extra money online, submit your email below and I’ll send you weekly tips on how to get started and make a successful living (full time or part time) online.

You can also leave a comment below and tell me how you feel about being employed, I’d truly like to know.

I use a lot of productivity tools on my computer to stay on top of my daily to-do lists. I manage to do well in most areas except when it comes to my voice mail. I hate checking voice mail but as it turns out I have specific hours for answering my phone throughout the day so no doubt I do manage to get a few voice messages.

I try let people know that I do not immediately check my messages. Sometimes it happens up to five to seven days after the messages have been left. When I do get around to checking it is only to get rid of the constant reminders that my phone sends out to check the messages.

Is there anyone out there with me on this? I cannot really explain the reason behind the aversion it is just something that just is. Some would say that is just suicide for business but somehow the people who need to reach me find a way to other than voice mail. Those that work with me know that I respond faster to an email, a text or a quick message on Facebook or Skype. Send me a tweet I will respond faster than when a voice mail is left.

I have so far not suffered any adverse losses for my delinquency but I am taking an oath to do better and perhaps to find a service that would transcribe my voice mail so that I can get to them much sooner. I found a few of them on the web but the reviews are not all that great. I will continue my search but if you have suggestions let me know.

Until I manage to right this wrong just send me an email, a tweet, Skype me or try calling me again because when the time is right I do answer my phone.

Here’s my question, do you share my aversion to voice mail?

Divali as it is called in Trinidad and Tobago, (Dipavali, Diwali or Deepawali), is also known as “the festival of lights.” This festival heralds a lot of zeal and enthusiasm in Trinidad and Tobago, India and a few other nations. Hindus celebrate by donning new clothes, decorating their homes, lighting diyas (earthen lamps), making a lot of traditional dishes and participating in a lot of activities related to the celebration of Divali. The lighting of the diyas is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness.

As I anticipate this year’s celebrations (I am not a Hindu myself) I am thankful to have grown up in a country where every creed and race finds an equal place. I am thankful for the many cultures from which I have learned. The cultures that contribute to who I am and I am sure most “Trinis” are today. The splendid displays of artwork all alight with hundreds of tiny diyas, the sounds of cracking bamboo and the delicious scents of traditional Indian dishes all fill me with a sense of joy for the celebration and nostalgia of times past.

Even though you might not have a firsthand knowledge of the celebration there are many lessons that you can take away from it. The whole point of the festival of Diwali is to “light” up minds with knowledge that can be used for good and to dispel ignorant thoughts, attitudes and behaviors.

How can you move away from darkness and bring more light into your life? What journey are you travelling right now? Where do you want to be in the near future?

It’s often easy to take one day at a time (and we should) but every day you have life you should purpose to do something meaningful with it. Make responsible decisions that will impact your future in a positive way. Life is too short yet too valuable to be tied to things and situations that are meaningless.

If you are doing things that don’t fit into your plans for the future it is time to pick up, reevaluate your purpose, find a solution and move on.

Sure sometimes life throws a few curve balls but that does not mean that you should lose faith. I get them all the time (a lot more in the past) but what kept me going is the knowledge that every day I am doing something that I love doing. Since you are going to spend a great deal of your lifetime working it is vital that you do what you love and believe that what you are doing is making a difference. Keep looking and when you find it you’ll know.

You might not be celebrating Divali where you are today you can surely learn this lesson and let the light of Divali shine on your life.

Wishing you all a joyous and prosperous Divali and to my Hindu brothers and sisters, Shubh Divali!

Call it what you will I took a look at my list of resolutions for that I made in January and I am happy to report that I can safely cross off half my list. A few things that I had in the works included losing 20 pounds (I was unsatisfied with my 152 pound figure, I cannot believe I put that out there), relaunching this site and mastering SEO or (Search Engine Optimization).

It took me a while and some determination but I managed to surpass my weight loss goal and I aim to keep it there. The site is fianlly relaunched and I can toot my own horn and call myself an SEO guru. Yes, I have accomplished some goals but there are a few more I get need get on seeing as we are half way through the year. I will be launching a local project soon and I am determined that it will be the best thing that the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago ever saw. Of course with God on my side how could it fail?

I am also excited to be taking vacation with my husband in the next week plus my wedding anniversary is just on the horizon. What a celebration that will be!

While all those things are upcoming I am happy also for the plans that I have for this site. Hopefully it will be a place where lives are changed (more about this later). So my dear readers stay tuned and keep coming back, tighten your seat belts cause we’re in for a bumpy but exciting ride.

I really began working online full time in 2005 but did it part-time for several years before that (granted that I worked more hours part time than most people do in their full time job).

I have had my ups and downs but I have discovered tried and true ways to make money on the internet while working at home. Believe me that while more and more people flock to this lifestyle it is not for the fainthearted. There are a lot of programs available on the web proclaiming that making money while working at home is as easy as can be but this is a false claim that too many people find out the hard way. Of course it is possible and the process once you learn it is quite simple but it takes work, dedication and a willingness to learn.

I will be sharing more about this is future posts. In the mean time I will share my top 5 ways to make money online just to get you thinking and very soon I will elaborate so that you can get started.

1. Develop a Product and Recruit Affiliates to Sell It

This is my all time favorite way to make money online. Before you get scared and start running the other way I should let you know that this is not as complicated as it sounds. Did you know that millions of sales are made online every year for digital or information products? Yes, its true people pay every day for information and if you can do the research or pay someone else to do it for you the results could be an amazing info product that thousands of people will be willing to purchase.

2. Promote Other People’s Products As An Affiliate

If you open your eyes and take a close look at some product reviews that you may have looked for online you will see that some of those reviews are written by affiliates. These affiliates try the product, write a great review, post their link to the manufacturer of the product and once you make a purchase they get a commission. Do this for a few high priced products or a few hundred low ticket items and you could earn yourself a fortune.

3. Write a Blog

Yes, if you can write even if its only halfway decent writing you can make money online. Write about the things that people want to know about and you can earn an income. How is this income earned? Well in several ways, you can publish ads on your blog, sell ad space when your blog becomes popular or even turn around and sell your blog when it does. My personal favorite is to use Google Adsense to publish ads on my sites. When the traffic (or visitors) increase my earnings increase.

4. Flip Sites or Domains

Building on the point in number 3 is flipping sites or domains for money. If you can build valuable sites fast enough and get them to rank or place well in the search engines and increase traffic you will be able to call top dollar when you sell those sites. Of course there is much involved here which is why some people choose instead to flip domains. Either way you can earn a small fortune by flipping sites or domains. I myself have flipped a few sites when I needed emergency cash. I still do it to this day.

5. Freelance

If you are just getting started online freelancing is a great way to earn some seed money to kick off your projects. Believe it or not all the methods outlined above takes times and when you need money in a hurry freelancing is the way to go. If you can write, design sites, edit photos, create videos or some other skill you can begin offering your services in exchange for money. You will need to build a clientele but this can be done quickly. Word spreads when you’re good at what you do.

Stay tuned as I will show you in future posts how to use my top 5 methods to make money online.

If My People Pray: An Eleventh-Hour Call to Prayer and Revival

I purchased this book about 6 months ago and it has grown to be a handbook of sorts for me. I believe that Christians, you and me, don’t pray enough. Yet God has blessed and continue to bless us in so many ways. Can you imagine what would happen if we prayed more? In this book the author Pastor Randy Maxwell explores the verse from Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I purchased this book to use in several church programs in an effort to get our church community to pray more and the book has blessed me in so many ways. I myself have struggled and still struggle with prayer. At times my prayer life is like a well overflowing with rich goodness and other times it becomes as dried up and fruitless as the desert sands but every day I exercise my faith in God and get on my knees and even when I feel that I accomplished nothing God reveals and rewards my faith throughout the day.

If you are looking to have a closer walk with God then look no further that If My People Pray, it will change your life.

Today I had a good look at my soon to be five year old son and I am amazed at how much he has grown. How the years seem to just go by. One of my biggest fears as a mother (and believe me there are many of them) is the thought of him growing up and growing away from his dad and I.

At this point in his life I see him struggling to exert his independence while still holding on to the special things that we share as mother and son. For instance when we are alone in the evenings just after we spend time reading and worshiping he loves to sit upon my lap and we would share a warm embrace. Those are truly special times for me and these moments I would forever treasure and tuck away into a place within my heart so that I could dust out and recollect in the next few years.

I wonder to myself if he will suddenly not want to have nothing to do with us when he grows a little older. What would I do when he no longer wants me around? Would he still want to share those special hugs that we so often share? Would the words I love you mummy still freely flow past his lips? Probably not or maybe he will still want me around if I make a point of being there for him right now.

I made a choice just after my son’s birth to be a Stay at Home Mom or rather a Work At Home Mom. I was not an easy decision by no stretch of the imagination. There had to be adjustments but today I am glad I did. Those moments we share in the morning and in the evenings are a sacrifice on my part. I have to give up a few hours of work each day to spend time listening and sharing with my son. Hopefully those moments will have an impact on him too and perhaps sometime in the future he will remember the way we were.
I love you Omarion!
